World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20th each year and is an important occasion to remember that bees play a crucial role in our ecosystem, pollinating about 75% of the world’s food crops. However, they are threatened by the use of pesticides and climate change.

According to an ancient popular tradition, bees were not just insects but sensitive souls, capable of perceiving joy and pain. For this reason, in the past, when someone died, got married, or a child was born, the hostess would go to the hive, knock softly, and whisper the news. It was believed that if ignored, the bees would become ill, stop producing honey, or even abandon the hive.

A gesture of deep respect. Of mutual love. Some would offer them a piece of wedding cake or a sip of wine to share in the celebration. Because, it was said, bees carried messages between this world and the next. Seeing a bee flying after a funeral… was like witnessing a soul on its journey.

Today we live in a noisy and distracted world. But this tradition reminds us of a time when people spoke with nature and listened quietly for its response.

This day invites us to reflect on the importance of protecting bees. Euro Steel, in collaboration with “Il Bosco del Miele,” has decided to contribute to the conservation of the species by adopting a hive and supporting a project dedicated to sustainable beekeeping and environmental education.
